Technical Report: AgeVerif
Technical report highlighting age verification system AgeVerif's ability to distinguish minors from adults and potential for discrimination
Project overview

To comply with European and French law, six pornographic platforms deployed age-verification systems in August 2025. Many use AgeVerif, including tukif.com, where it is the sole verifier.
The report evaluates four criteria: accuracy, non-discrimination, resistance to circumvention, and independence between provider and platform.
Our research finds that:
- The dataset AgeVerif was trained on contains only ~7% minors, consequently around 10% of minors are granted access.
- Country thresholds vary: 20 in France, 25 in Germany, 23 elsewhere.
- Only 27% of training samples are non-white. Minors with darker skin tones are up to three times more likely to be misclassified as adults; South and East Asian adults are twice as likely to be wrongly denied access.
Beyond accuracy and fairness risks, we identified governance and security concerns:
- Public records indicate that AgeVerif shares a director with tukif and reference-sexe.
- The system can be bypassed by simply adding a cookie.
